Nice page! I like it... Also, printed it out and will send it to Rick... He'll be quite pleased to see it... -Pat
Just stopped by to see some monkey-butt... jumpin'jan http://mall.turnpike.net/~servaijm
Bought 3 copies just before last Christmas. One for me and two gifts. Great reading and stories. Recommend it to all dirt bikers to read.
Great to here about your new book. For about 5 years (in the 70's) the highlight every month was when Dirt Bike showed up in the mail Box. So is Dirt Bike still around? If it is, is anybody decent still there? I've seen some of your articles in Old Motorcycle (I think that's the magazine). Keep up the fight. A long time fan. Dave Hoerman
I've read a lot of stories from Rick, and I've heard a lot of stories about him, too. Now I get the chance to what's up all in one place.
next time .....
Hi, cool page. I can't wiat to order Monkey But!!! It looks like a cool book! Rob
I remember when I was an active rider back in the 70's and 80's, reading all about this stuff in Dirt Bike. Interesting stuff for those of us in New Zealand, where you pretty much ride where you want to. We all owe those who fight the trendy eco-types... Anyway, it takes me back. Maybe it's time to buy another bike, and re- discover the joys of dirt riding. Keep the faith...
Keep riding, I have enjoyed the articles through the years. Hope to see you on the trail someday. There is an article about two guys; one who goes riding and gets busted by the BLM or something and one guy who goes driving around and gets in trouble in the city. I cant remember much more. I read that article about the time in my life I was making that kind of decision and, I made the right one. Thanks. I think it may have been Modern Cycle and not Dirt Bike? Anyway, thanks. Troy Millman
Hey! I am an hard core off roader that truely loves the sport of off road bike racing. Up here in Canada we have some very excellent riding area's, but traveling is a must. My main area of enjoyment is woods and hare scrambles. I would love to visit you American's one day, but, I am currently a computer programmer student and cash for luxurious trips with my machine are just out of reach. But since I found this page, I just might someday be persuaded to venture into the USA! California is a long haul for this dog though, but you never know! Thanks, Gary Hodgson Jr. ghodgson@icis.on.ca
did not know you had your book on line? have you start your class?
Good to see you're still out there scrapping, used to follow your stuff in the Motorcycle rags for years. I can sure see why you would get sick of the beaurocratic shit and move to Baja. Where I'm located the shit isn't too deep yet (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan , Canada..... look on a map. Winter skidoo's get all the breaks and the buggies, 4-wheelers and dirt bikes catch all the shit. Best of Luck in the future.........see you in the Baja!! Ed B.
Super Hunky, I first read about your immenseness back in the mid-70s when you were young and had glacial speed. I'm still a DB subscriber and am enjoying the mature (over-40) MX class.
I grew up with dirt bike. I am now 38 years old and first started reading dirt bike magazine when I was 12. I had a 1972 CZ 250.
Have always enjoyed Hunky and Dirt Bike. From age 8 to 21 I grew up on dirt bikes and Dirt Bike in the Western Pennsylvania hills. After that I drifted away but refound my roots on in Arizona on a XR650L at age 37. First thing I did was re-subcribe to DB. Scott Coons 70 Suzuki TC90 72 Suzuki TS185 94 Honda Xr650L
I haven't seen Rick's "Check Point" artical in Dirt Bike for months. What happened? Not a word from them as to where ya went. I feel like an improtant icon of Dirt Bike has left with out a word. How rude! Doesn't Rick know just how improtant his articals were to us??? Life has not been the same.
I scanned the excerpts for your book and found them entertaining enough to order the book. I especially liked the "long live rat bikes" section and the comment about brillo pad air filters (I had my first Bultaco ride in the early 70's in New Mexico). Look forward to reading bedtime stories to my one-year-old son Malcolm from your book. I'm the OHV Program Coordinator here in Arizona (State Parks). For now this is still the home of the free with awesome OHV opportunities. But we have some extra- ordinary anal antis that make life interesting for OHVers. -All the Best! ==TH==
Hey Super Hunky long time no see. Well I remember when you were with dirtbike in the 70s and then with Off Road later on. I am currently into Ducatis right now but I have many fond memories of your material from the past. How is the Phantom Duck of the desert doing these days, and do you still keep intouch with Mr. Know it all. Has any thing ever become of the radical animal rights group called Greenspec? Gee it looks like youve kept you age very well. Or is that a very old picture? :) Take care and good luck with your book...
It's good to see that rick is still alive. We've missed his articiles in Dirt Bike. I hope the book is a success and screw the BLM and all other tree huggers. The should all get a severe case of hemoriods and then try riding Barstow to Vegas.
Dist. 37 rider late 60's thru early 80's. Member SGVMC. Won 1980 SCORE Baja 500, Class 30 with teamate Richard Jackson.
Really enjoyed your book, brought back a lot of memories of when I started riding on a old 200cc Zundapp.
We need more Information on the net. It is one of our best tools to break down the media image of Hells Angles. Dirt Bikers pay taxes also!!!!
Have the book, partly becuz I've met Hunky and we have some mutual
friends/enemies/whatever. For example, Scott Wallenberg. And besides that,
I work in publishing and should be doing what SH is doing instead of
this corporate BS.
Keep on keepin' on.
('95 CR-250, '74 250 Elsinore for vintage -- racing since '68).
MarkThe only writer who can make me laugh out loud. Makes me want to go out and sit in the garage.
Hey Rick! Bryan here, I helped you get your first computer system for the Sahara Club up and running way back when. I'm racing buggies with SCORE these days supported by the Checkers. What are you up to? Bryan
I've been reading "From the Saddle" and other articles by Rick Sieman since I was twelve and my aunt bought me my first issue of "Dirt Bike" as a Christmas present. (My parents have never forgiven her for that) This makes about thirteen straight years that I've been laughing my ass off at the stories and the magazine in general. Thanks for exposing me to the love of my life, and please try to keep it up for as many years to come as you can.
I'm ordering this book today. As I live in the mojave, I used to enjoy dirt biking with my dad in the mid to late 60's. Hare and hounds, hare scrambles, greenhorn enduro and so much more. Its gone now. You book should bring back some fond memories.
Been dirt riding for years. Now have a 1976 CR250 and 1967 CJ5. Both good toys.
Great memories! I can remember lusting for a Hodaka Ace 100 and when "On Any Sunday" was the finest movie ever made.
I am an old friend of the Cook Brothers. I know they helped you out at the Baja 100 quite a few years back. I am still racing in various classes. I was fortunate enough to win the recent Baja 500 in class 5-1600. Also, weren't you or are you the phantom duck or something ?
Holy cow... I looked at the glory days picture... I don't know where that was taken? But I swear thats me on the 7th bike up . My trusty 450 Husky desert sled...Nobody believs me when I desvribe how it was.
Yowza! Fancy meeting my old bud here in CyberSpace! Rick - if you knew me as well as I know you, from years of following "Scratch 'n Sniff from the Saddle" - we could BOTH feel like old friends from WAY back! I must stand and applaud that you have written a book -- FARM OUT! This is just in time for my brother's pending birthday (2 weeks away) so I'll thank you for it now. Honestly, I was seriously distressed when your post was taken over by the children of a lesser god, but I count myself lucky to have enjoyed your rag in its absolute height of glory - which roughly corresponded to mine. (Reminds me of a hilarious T-shirt at the state fair last year: "The older I get ... the better I was.") Ironically, today I pulled out an old Yammer 80 that the kids outgrew - to clean up and sell to someone who will enjoy it - and then I stumble on Dick Jiz Waxes Eloquent! Destiny creates a partial vacuum once again, eh? Oh - the pic of you one-handing it on this page reminds me of you (I am pretty sure it was you) catching air on a HOG! in a hilarious spoof article. I bet if I tore up my garage I could find some DBs of your vintage! Keep up the good work, doin' it in the dirt, and thanks a million for all the healthy belly laughs over the years! Sincerely, Jay Murphy
I was very suprised to see the word "Monkey Butt" on the net. I am a member of the Kansas All-Terrain Vehicle Association (KATVA), and at one of our last rides to Little Saraha in Waynoka, OK we were sitting around a campfire, drinking a few cold beverages late at night, acting partially crazy and discussing "monkey butt". Our President (Randy Smith) is the expert on "monkey butt", as a matter of fact in our last monthly newsletter there was a discussion about "monkey butt". I have not read the book, but I assume we are talking about the same thing, i.e., long hard riding (ATV's or motorcycles) for several days and your rearend "butt" looks like the monkey's butt. Beware of the wild and crazy riders from the KATVA. Visit our short and sweet homepage at: KATVA1@aol.com.
MISS OL' SUPER HUNKY, DIRT BIKE HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME. GLAD TO SEE A PAGE FOR US DIRT RIDERS THANKS.
Great page! I'll order the book...soon.
Thanks for fighting all those battles! The war is not over just stalled.
SEE YA AT B TO V 96! MIKE RAGAN (PROSPECTORS M\C)
Hitler+Stalin=Clinton !!!
Cool page, just wondering if you've ever met Coco, as in Cocos Corner near San luis gonzaga? If anyone reading this has let me know. bfe@bendnet.com http://www.off-road.com/~cdrom
Please don't get me started......Fud has found out that the only way to shut me up is to stick a micrphone in my face and ask me to say something.... anyway I'm just cruising around on a Sunday, surfing the Internet, just got back from a 3,000 mi ride through the great state of Ca. on my new street bike, a Nighthawk 750 btw, and was taking time to catch up on the standings of District 39 and the Superstition series to see what I had to fill out for the next race standings this coming Sat. I'll have to get together with you guys sometime and see if you want to buy a story from a dirt biker riding a street bike all through the vacation spots of Ca. Had a blast and have got 9 rolls of film to document all the fun places there are out here. Anyway, like I said, the only way to get me to stop is to stick a mic in my face, so I better hget out of here before I run on and on and on.............See ya in the dez, Have FUN!!!
I am in complete agreement with your point of view of the BLM and the AMA. Keep the pressure up!!!
Grew up reading Rick's column in Dirt Bike, reading your excerpts here brings back some memories! May have to pick up a copy...
Super Hunky! - Your writing style and insight have been often imitated but not equalled. I've still got my original issues of Dirt Bike. Yor stuff is still like a fresh blast of roost in the face. Great to see you alive and smokin in cyberspace!!
I¥ve been riding and racing enduros in Mexico for over 25 years (I¥m 35 now), I¥ve been browsing over the information in your web page for a few minutes and I am already getting addicted to be here for long periods of time, in respect to Super Hunky¥s book, I bought it last December and got two extra copies as Christmas presents for my riding buddies, and even though we¥ve been following Super Hunky through his articles in the magazines over the years, we still laugh like crazy even in our sleep when we remember some of The Book¥s tales, it¥s great. By the way, all the legal problems that must be confronted in the US to ride where you want, it¥s crazy, and Super Hunky is right move to Mexico, and ride where you want. (almost literaly).
I've been riding/racing/crashing Dirt Bikes for longer than I like to remember (or care to admit!), and there for it all was Super Hunky! His stories inspired me, made me laugh, got me angry, and made me fight. If ever one person embodied what Dirt Biking was all about, it would have to be Rick. So, here I am. A little older, a little rounder, a lot slower... But still having fun, and still riding Dirt Bikes. My oldest son asked for his first bike the other day. My wife said that she had NEVER seen me beam with pride like that. If he has half the fun I have had over the years, he will be way ahead of his peers! Thanks, Rick! All those old issues of Dirt Bike (every issue since 1975!) will help me show my son how to have fun with a sport that takes itself WAY to seriously!
Hey, Hunky, we shared a spot on the DB masthead for a while. As a matter of fact, they've still got me listed as a contributor even though I haven't sent them a thing in a long, long time. For some reason the banks in Cincinnati don't list photo credits on their current currency exchange. The whole VooDoo bicycle thing absolutely cracked me up. I heard about it when I was in New Orleans so I went ahead dropped a couple of bucks at Madame Psycho's to put a pin in my favorite God-fearing rat bastard. Good luck with the book sales!
Rick, I've always been an admirer. Still have the copy of Foofarah(?) that I picked up when I was 6 years old. I'm off at MIT hopefully learning a little bit of what it's going to take to rejuvinate a full fleged motorcycle industry in this country. It has bugged me since I was a kid that I couldn't ride an American bike. ATK and the others are a start - but I want more.
Just bought a 96 XR400, and can't find enough time to ride it! It makes for a very long day at work when all you can think about is going riding...
I have my copy of monkey butt and have read and enjoyed it it was a great read. Good luck with the fight, rick !!!! I remain the third place finisher in the worlds fastest refridgerator contest jim mothershed
No story, just interested in the history of dirt biking. dp
It's so hard to find decent places to ride in Maryland. I was trying to find out about state parks within a reasonable driving distance that don't view ORV's as second class citizens. Any experience in the mid Atlantic area?
My first desert event was the Green Horn 500 in 1968. I finished 7th 250B PU partal sponsorship from K&N MC in Riverside. However I only rode part time never had the money to ride a full seasson. 1972 B to V 2nd desert Trail Bike. I am hopeing to race again soon. W am trying to setup a home page for the lost Coyotes MC and trying to get younger riders intrested in the sport we need more riders. If your not living on the edge your taking up to much space!!!!!
Just looking down at the button you have to send this brings the tears welling in my eyes. Recalling the same method Martin and I had to use to get his Yamaha 125 twin to start. Ron's brigestone was much nicer with the rotary shift and all! Only Husky had such nice chrome in those days! Yes, Hunky I have been there along long long time. You Sir and I say so respectfully are the BEST writer this reader\writer has ever had the pleasure to read! More times have I cried with laughter, embarrassed my wife bursting out with laughs while she was entertaining often strangly, her guests would leave. Oh, well. I purchased the first copy and issue of Dirt Bike and was loyal as long as you were there. When the big guy left so did I. I still had the good ole' crew over at MXA (twisted though they were) I wish I could persuade you to go ridin' with me and Dave When you visit The Great North West. I have some of the best spots here and the (you owe me favors, hint hint) to give ya some excelent treatment for the "butt" And what luck Dave owns Powersports NW they sell Suzy, Yammers and Hondas take yer pick. Or how about an old "71 CZ" Thanks Rick for making My stay on this old whoop in the universe more fun. I have got some stories for you if some day we sit down at the same ol' folks home we'll do some b-racin' true to the old days. By the way my Maico was faster he he he.............. Rooster
I truly miss reading ricks aritcales in dirt bike. The mag has lost a lot of its fun.
I enjoyed reading your articles in DB.
Hi Rick, if your reading this i want to tell you that i had to craftely (sp?) sneak my father's copy of your book away from him when he wasn't looking. Thanks fot the hours of enjoyment...it is something that i can read over and over again...and never get tired of...kinda like "on Any sunday" ...congrates to Malcom Smith on his recent induction to the motorsports hall of fame, he is a testimony to our breed... ..and if anyone runs into Mert...tell him i got a grinder i could sell him cheap...it works wonders on cam lifters.... --troy ps i'm looking for an overbore kit for a '76 Hercules 125 GS...(1st over)
whops...forgot to mention that if you have infor on Herculese parts, email me at construc@tctc.com... also, i was reading a recent copy of motorcross action (yes, i am admitting this in public) and i read an artical by Rodger DeCoster. The artical had some very insightful suggestions supporting the current AMA regional points system...allowing for more trophys and less travel, more sponsors and competitive racing...anyway, you might be wondering what Roger is doing writing in motorcross action...well it was strange...he signed his name Roland Hinz...hmmm....Roland seems to be reading DirtBike and then copying Roger's articals into motocross action using his name....i think that this is called plagerism....a true testimony to the character of motocross action... hears a plea...Super Hunky...maybe you could start writing a guest artical for Paul in Trail Rider...after all...Hertfelter is doing it... oh well...off to dream about the smell of twocycle oil.... --troy
pls. send my e-mail lots of stuff of off road and enduro. thanks. guy
hi, have your ordered and received your book and i am waiting to find time when i am not racing, training or restoring or even working to pay for all this to read it. enjoy peter
I was deeply disturbed to receive my cheque for a copy of "Monkey Butt" returned to me today. It seems Mr. Sieman's bank levies service charges at a rate that makes unrealistic for him to accept orders paid for with a Canadian cheque. I fully understand the logic in not paying $50.00 to cash a $34.10 cheque but why not state directly on the order page that orders from Canada must be paid for by Money Order drawn on a U.S. bank instead of giving instructions to make payment by cheque or Money Order from Canada. I honestly think I would have enjoyed reading "Monkey Butt" as I have been involved with dirt bikes for about 25 years now. Unfortunatly I won't get that opportunity as I don't have ready access to a U.S. bank. I have two suggestions Mr. Sieman. Either specify U.S. only ordering instructions on your order form or, preferably, find a bank with sane service charges and save everyone some frustration. Spencer Dixon
How come you didn't tell the tale about how you got your useless sister married off???
36 and feel like 18 on a bike Rick has entertained me through "dirt bike" and elsewhere since I was a kid truly a dirt bike legend.
I just looked at this web site. It sure does look interesting and certainly brings back a lot of memories. I used to work for Preston Petty for years, and this book looks promising. Since I knew a lot of people in the industry during those days, 1973 to 1977, I shall look forward to reading the book. Best Regards, Steve Weiner
NICE PAGE !!!!
Hey all, I can't wait till my copy of "Monkey Butt!" shows up. Drop by my vintage motorcycle page at http://www.rollanet.org/~spencer/jeff/cycle.html l8r, Jeff
Can't find the book in Canada. I'm a big fan, long time reader of Dirt Bike (since '78), would like to read the book. Help!!
since aprox. 1978 I've been reading Dirt Bike with Rick's column. I really enjoy the mag and even more enjoy Rick's column I've always wanted to say hi to Rick.... HI TO RICK. There, I will now slept alot better after typing that. I look forward to reading Rick's book. Take care rick, Rick Bergstrom
I received my copy of "MONKEY BUTT" for Christmas last year (Thanks sis!). I couldn't put it down! The book is everything that Mr. Sieman says it is...and more. Every dirt biker should read this book at least once. I personally have read mine three times now. Thanks Rick! J. Bruce McCrary Lexington,NC.
Just thought I'd stop by and say hi.
Keep up the good work. see ya.
Hi Rick, Damm small world! You have a very nice home page! Take care, Brant
You were my boyhood hero until the day you cut down my one true love- observed trials. Took the shine right off ya and ya ain't done nothin to put it back on yet. Sour grapes? Maybe, but the little kid inside still has a tear in his eye. Yeah I'm a whole lot older now and I wish you no misfortune. I understand more about people and their opinions, viewpoints, and all that stuff but I can't get the tear out of that little kids eye. Good luck with your book and keep on ridin, after all, what else is there that satisfies so much?
Fighting the 2-stroke ban with D 36 AMA guys Pickett and Dart. No help from the MIC. Got any advice ?

Nothing meaningful or insightful, yet.
Dirtbike just isn't the same with out Rick's stories. It was the best part of the mag!
Dear Super Hunky, I am sad to not see your work in Dirt Bike anymore since you were my favorite editor/journalist. I have been reading your work since the early '70s and I think it is a mistake for DB to not have a founding writer/editor in there now because you were the heart, humor, and brains behind the magazine. I wish I knew what happened to you and DB. Thanks for all the great stories! Sincerely, Lyons Lillard
I am a big couch crooser. Looking for places to ride in Pa.,De.,Nj area.
Well, I may be a monkey's uncle; but I could never be a monkeybutt. There is only one in this dirt covered world. Great reading. Great stories. Great inspiration.
i aint got no stories or comments
I was / am looking for a little history on dirt biking (enduro) for my son who has a report due on this selected subject by 11 15 96.
Just a quick note of thanks to rick for all the good work. Time to get ready for a trip to stoned-d-ford for a r+r dirt bike trip see ya
I've just moved to Phoenix Az. and am looking for some "Old Timer" motocross guys.
I can think of no one better to chronicle the rise and fall of dirt biking in the west than Super Hunky. I remember chasing you down a dirt road at one of the B to V races- thinking "wow I might pass a really famous guy" only to blow a turn and crash . Never saw you again. I probably read 90% of your stories and articles from the time DIRT BIKE started through MODERN CYCLE and back to DIRT BIKE. Your humor was genuine and it made DIRT BIKE a great magazine. The magazine wasn't the same after you left.
I'VE ENJOYED YOUR ARTICLES FOR A LONG TIME. SPOKE WITH BASTEK. HE HELPED ON MY CHAMPION XL 350. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! WHY DON'T YOU COME TO TULARE TT AND 1/4 MILE DIRT TRACK PRACTICE 12/14/96. FDB

This place looks interesting!
super hunky, 750 maico, black water, good time?
super hunky, 750 maico, blackwater, good time? I'm not sure if it was On Any Sunday, your stories in Dirt Bike, or racing Kelly which kept me broke a few years ago. Loved your work!
I am looking for information concerning Baja off road motorcycle tours. Can you help?
My first dirt experience? A '68 Honda CL175 "Scrambler" - one of those tanks with wheels instead of tracks and an upswept pipe. The front washed out on the first aggressive right-hander, then it rode me for a while and that friggin' pipe burned the crap out of my right leg ... I wuz hooked. :-) Victor "Dances with Hawks" Johnson
This ol biker has switched to 4 wheeler (ATV). Let the story begin agin.
What you are about to read is the truth, i have no reason to lie. Well, it was my first desert event. The StumpJumpers Desert 100 super duper extravaganza or something like that. I was on gasp, groan, clench the jugular vein Honda Cr80. Yes i know that it is not quite the ultimate desert sled but it was all i had and i paid for it all myself. This event was also my first encounter with whoop de doos! Wow what a experience is all i can say. I was flat out in fourth gear which in a 80 equals out to about 35 or 40 mph. I saw the whoop section loom ahead in the distance like a bad omen from hell. My friends at a pre-race get together told me that the only way to haul through whoops was to hold the throttle to the stop. And that is what i did! I was bouncing through and i made a fatal error, i chopped the throttle and my front wheel started to drop, i panicked and for some very very stupid reason grabbed my front brake. I remember literally flying through the air with my legs far above my head and seeing the ground come up to meet me. Then i have a image burned into my memory of my goggles and helmet skidding and plowing up dust. A couple rolls and cartwheels later i came to a stop. I opened my eyes and saw a great bright brilliant light straight ahead of me. I honestly thought i was dead until i moved my head to the side and the bright light went away. I deduced that i just was looking directly into the sun. Luckily i had no real serious injuries except for my pride.
Hey, cool site! I subscribe to Dirt Bike!
Can hardly wait for the new issue of OBJ to arrive each month... keep up the good work!! Throughly enjoy Rick's column!!! Ride On!!! Go Packers!
Your book is the greatest compliation of dirt bike stories ever told since the time of Julius Ceasar. I grew up racing and reading dirt bike magazine in the 70's and now my 11 year old son carries on the tradition (with a better bike of course). Although I still think my Hodaka Super Rat was faster than his KX 60. Thanks for all the moments of reading pleasure over the years....Carry-on!
I started riding when I was five. I had and still have a 1977 Elsinor MR 50. My dad bought two of them at the same time for only six hundred bucks. I'am now 19 and I have a 1994 Honda CR 125 and a 1992 Kawasaki KDX 250. I race motocross with the 125 and race enduros with the 250. Before the 125 and 250 I had a 1986 Susuki SP 125. This was a fourstroke and a piece of junk. I'll never own another fourstroke in my life. The two strokes power have unbelievable power. I have always rode in the woods but just a year ago a buddy of mine got me started in motocross. My riding pal has a brand new 1997 Honda CR 250. He has been racing moto for several years. Sometimes when we go riding he lets me ride his NEW bike and I go crazy on it. The power of this demon, this monster, this possible neck injury sends me into a state of total illusion. I believe that this wheeling busten machine can take me anywhere. This creature will take me up any mountain, glacier, or neck breaking, body impailing arm and leg crushing hill that my little heart desires. That is if I can hang on. The next bike I get is going to be a Honda CR 250. I can't wait until summer gets here so I can start racing again. I have a little brother who is getting ready to turn 13 and I'm trying to get MOM to let him start racing. This is practically impossible. I don't understand it she lets him play football but won't let him race. He has out grown the 1977 MR50 that I passed down to him. He now has a 1980 CR80, and this little bike will scream. The only problem is that the shocks aren't set up for motocross. Besides that my little brother is a pretty big boy. He weighs about 140. I would like to get him a newer bike like a 1995 CR80 bigwheel. Riding dirtbikes is my life and some day I hope I could ride for a living.

funny, maybe ironic........anyway today was wierd! I wrote the Sahara Club a letter today and happened upon this website within 9 hours after writing the letter.
Great site... Of course anytime the name "Super Hunky" catches my eye, vivid recollections of '70s D-37 desert racing, articles of Hunky's GYDBT experiences, B to V protest rides, and, of course, the greatest prize of all (guaranteed to make you laugh anytime) the Super Hunky Centerfold Calander!! Rick, thanks for the greatest dirt bike articles ever written. Jeez, I must be getting nostalgic in my old age.... Gary Niederhuth - Yucca Valley, CA Rams M/C, Desert Knights M/C (I did say OLD didn't I?) Older, fatter, slower, but still ridin' See any of you at Dove Springs, Cuddeback, Charlies Place, etc.
great web site. after owning three hodakas over the years, i would like (and have earned) a honorary degree in the art of riding, pushing and maintaining vintage motorcycles from the most honorable dr monkeybutt (rick). in addition, i have attempted to maintain and ride a host of dozens of more popular models and have scars to document my case. i vaguely remember you mentioning you had an old triumph. do you still have it and it is ridable? nuff said.
Dear Rick , I live in southern ontario canada and I own a 1997 CR500R. I really liked the article in Dirt Bike on this machine and it convinced me to by one. I've been riding for 15 years and my first real moto-cross bike was a '79 Maico 250 (r.i.p) . I'm looking for other riders and riding areas in my neck of the woods, so if there's anyone out there e-mail me at jesse@netcom.ca. I'd like to here from you! Thanks and try to keep the knobbie side down!
Dear Rick, Your book was an inspiration to me! I think I'll write a book now based upon my 25 years of dirt bike riding. I think I'll call it... hmmm, Turkey Turds! Yea, that's it. Christ, I can almost see the promised land of the Best Seller list already!!! Thank you Mr. Sieman Kirk Overby Dirt Bike Ed http://www.off-road.com
I grew up reading DB every month starting with the Aug. '71 issue. The articles you wrote were (are) GREAT. I need to order your book to find out just what happened between you and the higher ups at DB over the years as I have always wondered. I thought you were back to stay (at Dirt Bike) this last go 'round but was not to be I suppose. You turned me into a life long Maico-freak with the early seventies Maico tests you did and am comtemplating a '97 500. Not quite the same as the old 400's, eh? I enjoyed the website and lets keep hearing from you!
Is the "Sahara Club" still around and does it have a web site? Thanks!!! P.S. Avid off-road rider here !!!
Looking forward to the book. Here resides one who still remembers the cover with the roost wiping out the wide angle lense.
Keep up the good work!
Hello Rick, Just happened to find your site. I have been working on a Tribsa (57 BSA super rocket with a Triumph 650 twin engine) for Premier Open Twins. It most likly will end up in a Metisse frame. It won't be ready until sometime next year. Just decided that I need more racing than I can get from AHRMA. So, I just bought a CR 500. Haven't spent any time on an open bike since before you and I race in dist 37. Plan on racing the local over 40 events with Colorado's SRAC organization. I hoope that you can get out to Colorado for the races at Steamboat this year. I will ride Steamboat and plan to ride the vintage races at Mammoth this year. When you ride Classic 250/500 Expert in AHRMA you have to travel for any chance of a good field of machines. Give an e-mail if you have time. Dave Wilson, Boulder CO
Boy... there must be synchronysity in the universe. I see my old buddy Gary Niederhuth and fellow clubmember (Rams M/C) logged in here just a few days ago. Haven't seen him in about 9 years. Amasing what the net can bring together. Anywho... old Dist 37 desert racer here. (1968 - 1976) Member of the Rams M/C. Rode BtoV from 1970-1974. Finished all, trophyed three times. Met ex at finish line in 1972 as I was laying on the ground under a buddy's truck pucking my guts out. Former college prof, CNN pundit, currently running a growing software business. Haven't been on a scoot in years though. Sure do miss the old dez and the Saturday night campfire sessions. ::: sigh ::: waxing nostalgically... ::: double sigh ::: Well, *when* BtoV is brought back to life I promise to bring the old Elsinore out of the barn and join in. I started riding dirtbikes when I was 11, and fell completely in love with the sport. I am 23 now and did not think that I would still be this crazy about it at this age when I started. A lot of guys ride when they are growing up and then lose the spirit. I have kept the love for the sport just as strong as ever. I am in college now and don't get to ride but maybe a few times a year. I can remember when I was in high shool riding every day of the week. I could ride right out of my garage and ride all afternoon or until dark. I wish I could have those days back. Now all I do is study and think about the good old days. My current bike is a 1989 CR250. I rebuilt the bottom and top end last summer while living at home, and taking the summer off from school. I loved the stories at this site. They make me laugh like hell. I have got a few good stories from my riding days and can relate. Keep on riding!
I can tell I'll be spending quite a bit of time here.
Rick, Being a person who enjoys off roading in many of its forms... I have enjoyed your columns over the years. Especially your racing the class 4 truck. I have raced what you have probably termed a 'nuisance' out on the course. I raced Open and 250 quads in SCORE/HDRA events, teaming with some awesome people. I have enjoyed the comoradarie of other teams helping others, in so doing placing themselves at risk of lessening their chances of a better finish. Racers and their families are some of the best souls out there. In closing I wanted to say that the most memorable quote from you came from a '60 minutes' interview ... you had answered a question to which you replied 'Maximum Irritation'. The wife throws that one in whenever she has a moment of irresistable retaliation..... Thanks for the Laughs and your Horsepower for Off Roaders, Mike Yano BnchRacr@aol.com
Keep The Trottle wide open!!
Hi Rick, how is racing? A special hello from Jeanette Harvey, a voice from your past at dirtbike mag in Encino.
Great stories Rick, good to see your stuff in Old Bike Journal. Have a garage full of old dirt bikes, they seem to just have character.
picked up a very clean 84 ATK with the XR engine. I remember them being a kit you could get then. Problem is no one can tell me much about setup because most kids behind the counter at the bike shops were in grade school when this bike was made and just give me dazed looks when i ask for info. does anyone know the whereabouts of Horst L? Any info would be most helpful. i've been riding since the days of the dt-1 and stayed with it since. rode lots of enduros in the late 70s and thru the 80s. always liked 4 strokes so i'm familiar with these things. is rondo t still around? an e-mail address would sure help. glad i found your site and be sure to go riding on earth day as i plan on being at bean canyon watching the poppys go by at speed
I really liked The Wanderers. Is there any chance of more stories of them?
I have read "Dirt Bike" for many, many years and have always enjoyed your articles and editorial. Since you no longer write for DB, it ain't the same!
When I finally stumbled across some "Super Hunky" material while surfing the web, a smile as wide as a KX 500 power band spread across my wind chapped lips. My days of riding dissappeared long ago but my love for the sport and enjoyment of Hunky's clever and knowledgable anictdotes never will. I'm a 32 year old former rider/racer from New Hampshire. Yes, Rick, Dirtbike did reach this far and wide. And although my waiste line has not yet approached the legendary girth of Your Portliness, I also remember the days of training hard and long in a feeble attampt to gain speed on a dirt bike. I have gathered from the available reading on this site that you have forever abandoned the plush, well lit offices of Hi-torque Publications for the breathtaking vistas of the Baja. Well Hunky, good for you. I'm glad that you did so well from such humble beginings. As a youngster in Mungwater N.H., I would read each copy of DB from cover to cover. Never would I forego "From The Saddle" for that shocking test of the all new RM 125N. My back issues were lost 5 or so moves ago never to be seen again. This is why I am so thrilled to find reprints of your old material even if only in Cyberspace. Well ,Rick, goodluck to you and your's . Somewhere there's a Maico 450 just lying dormant with a family of chipmunks in the expansion chamber screaming your name. Take care. Yours truly, Ken Lefebvre
Rick, Do you remember meeting me last year in Mexico before the 500? I've finally written a masterpiece called "Dirt Squirt: A Kid in the Pits" and would like for you to read it. Write me: Laura Conrad POBox 1342 Lomita, CA 90717-5342
Enjoyed your book. Lots of good stories and info on land battles.
Wow, what a great book. I can't put it down and have laughed my head off, I was one of those kids lined up to see "On Any Sunday", I was just in another State at the time. Growing up with buddies with Montessa's, CZ's, DT-1 Yamaha's, Maverick Minibikes, Honda Motorsport 250's, Hodaka's and Bultaco's and this book has opened the flood gates of memories. I have been telling all my buddies to buy it. They want to borrow it instead, just like my can of chain lube. What a bunch of loosers! I love em. Thanks Rick for book. I stumbled on to it by fate after riding in the sandunes for 4 days and all the guys had monkeybutt but had never heard the name before. Of course I razed them about being that. Anyway one of the guys, surfing the net the next week put in a search for, you guessed it "Monkeybutt" and told me of the book. I was shocked on how fat it is. BUY IT! "RAD" Randy
Super Hunky!!! Keep up the great stories and never quit riding!!!!!
Great site!
Hey super Hunky- remember me? Think back, waaayyy back. Barstow to Vegas, 1973. Huge soda dry lake bed, just outside of Baker, a few miles past Gas 1 at Razor Road. I was 17 at the time, screaming acorss the endless dry lake bed on my 73 Elsinore 250. I noticed a poor guy broken down as I flew past him, roosting dust all over the poor chap. Then- it happens. BUUUHHHHHH- My Elsinore coasts to a silent stop. "Fould Plug!" says I, leaping to the ground. I whip in a new plug, pull out the kickstarter, and just about break my leg on the foot peg as I slam the lever down. The piston does a thousand revolutions up and down. I hop off and hop around on my sore foot, pushing down on the aluminum starter with my hand. Fhht fhhtt goes the piston, up and down. DAMN! I looked up and saw a big guy come running across the lake bed towards me, bounding across the vast expanse, huffing and puffing like an old tired Greeves as he reaches me. "Hey," he says, "I have an Elsinore over there, just like yours. I holed a piston, damn the luck. What we can do is pull the top end out of yours, put it in mine, and I'll tow you out of this hole!" I look in amazement- its the Hunk himself. I pushed down on the kickstarter, forcing the piston to do another hundred revolutions in the cylinder. "ARRGGH!" he shouts. He introduced himself as I pushed the dead Honda over to his. I was really dazed, since the BtoV was my second ever race, and I was hoping to actually get a glimpse of Super Hunky. I was a dirt bike crazy kid, having seen On Any Sunday enough times to memorize every shift. I used to wait by the mailbox to get my copy of Dirt Bike Mag every month, because I LOVED to read what Rick wrote. And here he is, out in the middle of the sticks, with enough tools and spares to open a small machine shop. If he just could have carried that spare CR piston! I really made him laugh when I asked him for his autograph just before he got a tow out of there from a friend. The only thing he wasn't carrying was a pencil and paper. I handed him a short strip of duct tape, which I had him scratch his name on with a screwdriver. He really got a belly laugh from that one. I kept that stupid hunk of tape until just a couple of years ago, actually. It finally turned to powder on the side of my tool box, sort of like the fenders that came stock on an Ossa. Thanks, Super Hunky. You were an important influence on my life when I was a young pup. I never regretted my life in dirt bikes, which I still ride a few times a year up here in Northern California, where I work as an IS Director. After BtoV I really took up racing, making Expert in MRAN. (Southern Nevada) That was a long time ago, but I still remember that wonderful Elsinore, and my brush with fame on a dry lake bed. I will be ordering your book ASAP! Nick Warhol Hayward, Ca.
I really enjoyed the site and look forward to getting a copy of your book, but until i get a new pair of boots(damn tech 3s are falling apart) your book will have to wait. Thanks for the laughs and the memories. Charlie Shea
Rick, it's good to see that you still give the establishment trouble. Keep up the good work. If you plan on going to Steamboat this year, and you need a machine, my offer of my '67 360 Husky still stands. This machine is far from stock and has gotten the hole shot at Steamboat more than once, even with my 220 lbs on it. And, thanks, yes I have put on weight. It would be great if you had time for a little trail ride, the Rockies are lots of fun. Hey, were not talking baseball here. My current vintage project is a 1957 650 TriBSA. I think that it will end up in a Metisse. Why not, its only money? Gee, due to the cost, it won't be ready until next year, if I'm lucky. Dave Wilson former D37 MX Vet.
I would just like to say that I like your off-road cite, but was a little upset when I read that ATV's were only good for pulling hay from one side of the farm to the other, and dirt bikes are the only way to have fun on the trails. I would like to inform you that I happen to have a 250R Fourtrax that wips the hell out of CR and KX 250's down the trails and dunes. I can have just as much fun as any other dirt bike out there. Todd
I always liked your articles,Your always blunt and to the point. I loved the way you pointed out the tree huggers and their bogus information they use to get attention. Don't ever change!
I've been a long time fan, reading your articles for the last 15 years or so. I have become an even bigger fan (as I gained weight) when I saw how big you were on a dirt bike. I weigh in on the light side of 280 and still ride an '86 KLR 600 in the Southern California area. Thanks for being an inspiration (and an example I can point to in a "magazine" when my friends give me a hard time)
I loved your Dirt Bike Magazine Shootout. I have had the same opinions for a long time. My brother works in the industry and I have battled with him for years over what is printed. He has however given me some insight on what he must do in his job, and it was not what I expected.I will be looking out for your stories and articles in the future. I love your sense of humor!

I think I saw it in motor trend, or peterson's 4x4 and offroad first.
I think that you should have more pictures of bikes unlike the rest of the net pages that have boring junk about good and bad bikes let the people decide what bike is good and what bike is bad.
I decided to sign on the monkey butts page becouse it looks prety cool and school is boring all I want to do is go home ride hard. My home is in dolgeville Ny. if you even know were it it is a pretty cool spot to ride on your page you really need more pictures of sick bikes and bad a-- riders jumping tripples. so long JC
Thanks for the memories ! I still remember the GYDB Truck ! Finally have all the Pentons I wanted when I was a kid- now I don't have nay time to ride them !
I got Monkey Butt from a friend at City Bike where I used to do cartoons. I laughed so hard, so often, reading it at nights it scared my girlfriend. I got copies for other friends and that begat more copies for more friends and so on and so forth. A riding buddy has visions of a pilgrammage/vacation to Baja to pay homage to the Buddah of Dirt Biking: Super Hunky - boy is he nuts, we can already visit on the Astral Plane...
Do you sale USED DIRTBIKE'S THANKS: CASEY
Great book!!! Brings back memories of me dreaming of bikes when I was a kid, and laughng at Hunky's witty articles!!! Waiting for a sequel... Keep on biking East coast enduro, trail rider Suzi RMX, KTM RC
Have been reading your articles in OBJ-forgot how much I enjoyed your humor & insights.Have burning desire for Bultaco-object:feeble attempt at vintage MX-more likely to be riden in woods.Agree completely that all newer bikes lack character-all basicly the same-saw new Maico's in magazines.Yuck.Miss the 70's when you had something to argue about when comparing dirt bikes. They were actually different.Like a fool I was riding Yamahas.Too soon old,too late smart.Well....maybe its not too late. What was Hugh's Bultaco's address again. What ever happened to that old CZ you used to pose on? Bob
Mr Rick, Upon reading a clip on off-road . com I was unimpressed about the part where you related atvs as "haybail haulers" mainly due to the fact that many of my friends and I ride these so called haybail haulers. But the problem arises when you haul hay through trails at eccessive speeds passing dirt bikes and everything else that is in the way. Everybody complains that they couldnt win because of all the hay in their eyes. And by all means my atv is no haybail haluer!!
I really like the Monkey Butt Section I read the whole Section of quotes from the book.
Beauty book eh! Great reading for anyone not just dirtbikers.
Hi Rick, Just to let you know that i have been a long time fan of "Super Hunky" since early Dirt Bike days. You have given me much pleasure over the years, and have encouraged me to carry on riding, even tho i am now a porcine 48 year old on an equally porcine xr600! Keep up the good work and the tall tales!!!! Regards from the Rowde Rooster! (Devizes, Wilts, England.)
Great Page! Thanks for the insights. Yes, Flower Farmers ride dirt bikes too. ALOHA
Just testing out this code on our new server. SUN SPARC ULTRA 1 An effective upgrade comparable in moving from Class 9 to Trophy Trucks.. :-)
I couldn't agree more about your magazine comments. Dirt Rider and Dirt Bike have both slipped over the years. I'm 30 years old and have been riding and racing since I was 14. I remember picking up my very first Dirt Bike Magazine in June 1981 and reading From the Saddle. I always liked your writing style. It was such a let-down to have you and Clipper leave DB in 1985. Tom Webb can't write a grocery list, he also can't identify very well with the legions of B and C riders out there. I think I'll order your book to find out about the inside dirt in the industry. This land access issue has got me so bummed, even though here in Iowa we have no public land to lose! Keep up the fight and happy trails.
I LOVED what you said about the mags!!! My kids love the mags with pics but my husband (who rides often, no fancy gear involved) thinks that the rest is too funny (crap?!). I'd actually like to see more regarding any women that ride BIKES, I just started riding and my hubby stuck my on a YZ 80 for a true learning experience!!! How about a few tips for a girl?!!! Oh like how to REALLY do a Wheelie?!? Catch that article in DIRT RIDER!
Just another girl rider. I'd love to see some articles about female type persons who go out and ride. We seem to be a dying breed.
HEY BUD ITS COOL TO MEET YOU I RACE MOTORDIKES IN SOTH AFRICA AND I DIG MEETING FELLOW RIDERS SPEAK TO YOU LATER
Cool site so far! keep up the good work. I love to see the straight-forward,honest stuff like you have here!!!! Good job!
Just wanted to say hi. I`m an ex desert racer, and thinking of getting back into it again.I enjoyed reading & looking at your pictures. It brought back good memmories.I have a 1984 YZ 250, need to get it out of retirement& have fun again.Nice web page. So long for now Mark Pippert
This web page is awesome filled with all the stories and tall tales. I ride fourwheelers but love to watch dirtbikes in action. I think we're all entitled to a peice of the trail. Keep up the good work and tread lightly
You guys kick ass, plain and simple.
Lately, after several furtive glances for people who sign my paycheck I find myself sneaking out my copy of Monkey Butt! to dropaway into the magic years when I scalded the limits of a ratty Hodaka and lived to injest every irreverent, mung encrusted, word printed in Dirt Bike magazine. It's a kick in the pants to see it all again!
DIRT BIKE sites on the net, of any type promoting the sport, are insightful and absolutely essencial to our survival. I have been an avid DB and MXA reader since about 1987 and have owned dirt bikes since 1989. Internet presence can only support and encourage dirtbiking on a worldwide level. Persevere and keep up the GREAT WORK! I am looking for a "Mr Know It All" or similar type of MX assistance online. If you have any leads, send me an EMAIL and/or forward the suggestion on to others. THANX BANDIT.
go SUPER HUNKY! i have been reading DB since 74 and all i can say is, it is about time. your massive mental database needed to be committed to paper for the sake of the next generation. (also it saves me from thumbing thru a gazillion back issues) thanks rick, larry price lansing MI

i really like the monkeys on the bikes and the sexy guy doing the spread eagle on the motorcycle. Could i posible get his phone No. I need some one new to stalk. I got busted for stalking the artist fomerly known as Prince about two years ago and i just got out of the bighouse. hey, in Walla-Walla, where i was, the had gang rapes, and they wouldn't even let you drop the soap before they would start pumpen and when they got going you should just let them finsh man because they would slice your dick to ribbions if you did stop them. Cool huh
GOOD LUCK AMIGOS !!!!!!!!
WHAT A BUNCH OF LAME BENCH RACERS! I COULD SWOOP EM ALL ON A KICK 'N GO OR PASS THEM OVER THE TRIPLES ON MY BUELL! SUPER HUNKY RULES!
Hello Rick, I didn't remember if I ever thanked you for allowing me to shoot those photos of the '83 RM 125 in your kitchen for Motocross Magazine. Dave Gerig is a minister, Phil Beckman ?. I am GSMXS in So Cal (Gary Semics Motocross Schools, inc.) & RRacing, Inc.. This gig was just going to be a tax write off but my MX school booned instantly. Whoops! Dear Super Hunky, I love your page you never fail to make me laugh. I grew up in Pioneertown CA. were I think you raced your first desert race. I have moved back here (Pioneertown)a couple of years ago and I would love to know if you have any photos of those races. I still have my first race bike a '71 OSSA Stilleto and all the back issues of dirt bike.I still race district 37 on a KTM. P.S. the Sahara Club kicks ass never quit!!
Just got here.
Great web site with lots info and links. It is great time find Super Hunky still writing out there somewhere (DB isn't the same without the great article about the eco-freaks and their latest scheme to rid the world of all of the off roaders enjoying all that nature has to offer.
Just wanted to say hi to Rick. Still look forward to getting my copy of Sahara Club Newsletter. You should send it out more often. I can't believe that we all let the GD 2 stroke ban go in Calif. No matter how good they get 4 strokes, they'll never match that hit of the duce.
Help!! Im in Florida, and NOBODY here knows what a Husky "Desert Master" is.
RICK, i'VE ALWAYS APPRECIATED YOUR ENERGY AND HUMOR. I RIDE VINTAGE, TWO EXCEPTIONAL ELSIES, AND OF COURSE MY LOVE, MY XR600. I'M 38 AND I HAVE KEPT EVERY BIKE MAGAZIDE THAT I'VE BOUGHT SINCE 1973. MY WIFES HATES IT. SEE YA' AT THE RACES. IF YOU EVER WANT COME ON OUT TO THE FIRE AND POLICE MX NAT'LS AT GLEN HELEN. NEXT DATES OCT 14 AND 15. C YA' !!!!!!!!
hey rick, how about putting together a book with reprints of your old Dirt Bike articles? (they were the best part of the mag) ....i had all of the issues (save the first or second) in our basement in Daytona until a few months back when my mother decided to make some room and tossed them :-(? any way, a month or so later i was more or less recovered from the loss and i've now decided to bring back to life my '73 hodaka wombat which hasn't run in about 17 years.. still got all the original parts (except tires and rear sprocket)..when it does it's phoenix impression i'll shoot you a copy. looking forward to reading "monkey butt" and please let me know what you think about reprinting the articles...ok? thanks! (for the memories)
Dear Super Hunky : I've been reading your Verbage` Since the earliest days of DB. I just finished reading Monkeybutt on the plane to Ft. Lauderdale , And I embarressed myself to death from Guff-awing at the top of my voice , time and time again ! Thank you so much for an entertaining trip down memory lane,a replenished appreciation for all that you did for dirt-biking while the rest of us were out riding our fool heads off and hoping that someone else was doing the dirty work--like YOU ! Waaaaaaa ! You penned a good book , my friend ! Godspeed & and pray for no tank-slappers ! Eric Hunter Montgomery,Al.
I WAS IN A SECOND HAND DIRT BIKE SHOP HERE IN DALLAS THE OTHER DAY, & SAW "MONKEY BUTT" ON THE SHELF,I BOUGHT IT FOR MY RIDIN' BUDDIES' UPCOMING BIRTHDAY, WE CALL OURSELVES TEAM MONKEY BUTT, HAVE FOR SOME YEARS NOW... RICK, OF COURSE YOU DON'T KNOW ME BUT... ( HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU HEARD THAT ONE ) YOU'RE AN INSPIRATION TO US ALL... I'D BUY ANOTHER BOOK FOR MYSELF, BUT,... AH THOSE WERE THE DAYS... DKW, OSSA,PUCH,... MY BUDDY ( A RICH ONE ) HAD A NEW PUCH 175 WITH THE CHROME PICKLE SILENCER MAN WAS THAT THING FAST! THEN CAME THE ELSINORE, NOW LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENED. I WAS A SUZUKI GUY FOR A LONG TIME, FINALLY GIVING UP THE 90 FOR A USED TS125. AS IT WAS RED AND DE COSTER RODE A YELLOW ONE, OFF CAME THE LIGHTS & ON WENT THE SPRAY CAN YELLOW. RUSSELS' DAD BOUGHT HIM A HUSKY, TIMS'POP SPRANG FOR A YAMAHA 100MX, ( SILVER WITH A GREEN STRIPE) .. I TRIED TO PORT IT FOR HIM ...WITH A DRILL & A GRINDING STONE ! TOM,TIMS BROTHER, HAD A PENTON 175, MY PERSONAL FAVORITE. WE RODE THROUGH THE ALLEYS OF DAYTONA OUT TO THE SANDY RIDING AREAS AROUND THE RACETRACK. HIDIN' FROM THE LAW, MAKIN' TOO MUCH NOISE, & WEARIN' OLD BUCO HELMETS & MAYBE A JOFA FOR LOOKS. NOW I GOT A KID, HE'S THREE, HE SITS ON THE TANK OF MY ATK & GRINS THROUGH HIS KIDS GOGGLES, & KIDS HELMET...PROBABLY DREAMIN' OF A NEW ........DT-1...
I've been a fan of SuperHunkys since the earliest days of DB. I swear to God I still have the tattered remnants of a blue Super Hunky Sweatshirt. The sleeves are gone, and the handsome moustachioed likeness of Rick looks more like the shroud of Turan, but I still have it! I am ordering the book, of course, and I am sure my family and friends will consider having me committed when they find me rolling on the floor, incoherent, unable to speak, with tears of laughter rolling down my face! Bless you, Rick!
Well, I havn't had time to check out the "Monkey Butt" but I'm sure it is up to Super Hunkey standards. I to am an old Motocrosser turned 4x4 driver. When we get old its hard as hell to gass it over the whoop de doos all day Sunday and go to work Monday, Ya know what I mean...
I`ve been an active racer for the last 25 years.I`ve enjoyed your humorus comments for years. Just wanted to say "Your the bomb man and dont ever stop" Ron Mackey from Mackey Raceing Evansville Indiana

Alright!! I was so happy to find this page! I read Monkey Butt cover to cover to cover to cover! It's a great book. Hey Rick, how 'bout putting together a book of all great vintage desert photos you have. I'd buy it! Where else are us "wish I'd a been there" guys going to get 'em? One more thing, your book really made me think about a lot of things. I got up off my dead ass and made a difference in the world via club affiliation, public scoping meetings, meeting with the forest service and all kinds of stuff like that. Monkey Butt made a difference in my life and I'm damn glad it did!
Nice page-fun to read. Just stopping by during some down time at work. I haven't been on a dirt bike since...maybe sometime in the late 70's. Thinking about upgrading from a leg throttle off road bike to a hand throttle one...
I'm a reading tutor for a 16 yr.old dirt bike enthusiast. I'm looking for any dirt bike information that I can get my hands on--it's the only thing he'll agree to read! ANY direction on good stories or sites would be appreciated! Thanks.
I like it alot......
Page looks great, Keep up the good work
The new CARB ban on two stroke dirt bikes in California sucks!!, however, it did give me a good excuse to buy a 97 CR500(manufactured in 1996 and thus exempt from the law). The bike rips...
Rick, Your still the King! I am 39 and have been reading your articles since day one. One of my best memories I'll never forget was being at Indian Dunes during the week. My buddy and I spotted you in the pits and asked you if you wanted to join us for a beer. You stated "No I'm in TRAINING!" I couldn't help myself and replied "for what?" and you waved (wasn't sure if it was the bird). You still have a great (sick) sense of humor that is not too different then probably most of us, don't ever change! Also, I worked at Lockheed and there was this brunette (can't remember her name, kinda petique with perky tits) who claims to have been your secretary. She knew about the GYDBT and she even showed me an article that she said you wrote regarding her. Do you remember? Then, there is an ol freind of mine who said you lived down the street from him in Granada Hills. (Mike Berwick blond hair squirely dude rode a KX250) Small world huh and your probably thinking BFD!!!Ha Ha Ha Anyway, I don't want to bore you any more with my trivia shit but speaking of trivia.......... Can you name the rider who prevented Jarosalve Falta form winning the 250 world championship back in the 70's at some track in Russia. Two very questionable things occurred that day.....and no it isn't G. Moiseeve, that would be too easy. Would love to hear from you out here in sunny AZ, if your in the area (fat chance) I still have a cold one that's got your name on it!!!!! G-man (602) 981-6386
I sure miss Ricks page in Dirt Bike but I guess if you were going to leave you picked the best place of all. Hope you are enjoying your time in Mexico, and best wishes to you and your's. Tim Nicotra. P.S you prpobably dont remember me but I met you a number of times at the Dirt Diggers field meets and various dez. races. I am friends with Sam and Mary Crooks, and my mother , Edna Potter, was in the Dirt Diggers wayyyyyyyyyy back when, she rode a Triumph 650 'bonnie" anyhow Enjoy your resting in off road heaven. My e-mail address is "Dezertratt@aol.com"

Hey guys how the Hell are ya? I just love lookin' through this book and reading all the stuff folks have to say about ridin'. I see a lot of women riders who would like to hear more about and from other women who ride. Jeez, is there a chat room for that? Or maybe a chat room for us who are planning to make a trip west to ride the dessert for the first time. Once again I would like to extend a personal THANK YOU to Rick for Monkey Butt. It's great. Hows that book of all the photos you have comin' along there Rick? Work hard, ride fast and heal quick. Have fun, Don
I had the pleasure of talking to Rick S. just before the 1986 BtoV race--I think Rick was on a big 4-stroke that year. Your book is great--I bought two extra copies and gave them to friends! Thanks for this great web page--it enables fans like me to keep in touch with SuperH!
I ride alot so I have many things to say about racing. Most of my life is dirt biking , I love going down to Fresno to go race moto x.

Super Hunky Forever!!
Hello from South Africa. Great web, but please give more details with AMA motocross information. Would be great to have detailed lap by lap results. Who are you? We are from Pietermaritzburg in South Africa... yes, we do have motocycles here. (Ask Greg A.) Later!
I have no clue what this is all about, but good luck and have fun!
Rick, We met in 78' at Morristown,PA. I don't figure you'll remember the Metzler Mothers day race on the old golf course. It was a "hoot" I got 2nd that day ,and met you one of my heroes at the time( still are the more I find out what you been up to). Well afew years later I was racing mid pack at High-Point every week end and someone sez your too old for that and I believed them. Now 17 years later I just finished My first comeback race. I hurt like hell and am happier than I have been in 17 years! Just sayin Thanks Super Hunky you know how great this sport is thanks for 30 years of wit and wisdom. Maico Rules! Ron Bonar P.S. DNF - 3rd ,knew you'd be wondering.
Test
I'm relatively sure the Hunky went down immediately after the above photo was taken. I know this because its a well known, little publicized fact that the only bike the Hunk could ever ride was.... that coffin tank 501 Maico. Thanks for being the father of all the smart butt dirt bike magazine writers that undoubtedly flourish today due to your DT-1 early, semi-proud, distinctly non-athletic, example.
Rick We've never met but we've raced together. I beat you once at Hopetown circa 1975. I was a charter subscriber to Dirt Bike (still have the first 2 years worth at home) and an early member of the Sahara Club. I currently do dual sports on an XR and old farts MX on a Husaberg. I currently live near Santa Cruz, home of you know what First. Call if you need a consultant on impossible missions. Keep up the good fight. BW2
I have been involved with motorcycles 30 plus years, keep info comming. thanks
Rick, I used to be an avid fan of your column, when you were at DB. I had no idea that you were so involved with the politcal side of things! I wish I had been around for the B to V protest rides(I'm only 14). Also, whenever i found my parents renewal slips for the Sierra Club, I ripped them up and burned them (secretly of course). That's at least $50 out of those bastards pockets. - Mike Knapp Pittsburgh, PA

Motocross guys are the best! I've found they have more "balls" than any other guys and can prove it quicker in a quarter mile!

Old late 60's - early 70's D-37 racer. Enjoyed your old pictures. Am now suffering a second childhood - bought a 250 kawi and am desert racing (Arizona) again. Think I'll order the book....
Great reading, Hunky! If you haven't bought a copy you're missing out. It brought back a lot of laughs and painful moments.
i was a big fan of dirt bike, and read it up about 1985. i quit riding after hitting a truck ,just after a gas stop at a enduro. it killed my suz.pe 175, and did a no. on me. after 12 years i have started to ride again and the fun is still there . i have a 1989 kaw. kdx200e and a 1985 honda xr350r. dirt biking no feeling in the world like it. thanks tim schumacker p.s. i enjoy old bike journal.
awsome
A real cool website, liked the old photos.I myself own and ride a 1988 HONDA CR250R, keep up the site.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.YEE-HAW
Hunk, Like most everyone else who has signed your list, I am a great fan. Monkey Butt is a fantastic read! I laughed for week. Who else could come up with the "Krause Automatic Death Trap" or the tale about Laurens Offner at the Cincinatti Trade Show, what a gem! Keep up the great work! It is true that DB magazine is only a shell of its former self. All the humor and irreverence that you and Chet and Paul created is gone, along with your way of telling a story. DB really needs you back, but we all know that they won't admit it. Well, stay out of trouble ( LIKE YOU COULD!!!) and I'll see you at Adelanto or Viewfinders or some AHRMA race. Allen L. Wenzel D-36 #4B D-37 #89
When I started racing the early 70's Dirt Bike was our line to the world (we were in the military and raced in the Philippines and Japan). I've enjoyed reading Rick's columns for many years. His book is on my "must get" list. I'm now the proud dad of three boys who race. It's the greatest thing in the world to introduce your kids to something that you love. The best part about getting back into racing was to find out that the people envolved today are as fine as the ones I raced with years ago. Now if I could only make enough money to support "our" habit. Keep up the good work.
Have not seen or heard from you in a long time. Hope that you make it to the Baja 1000, Nov. 12th thru 16th. Hope all is well with you and the family. Drop me a line when you get a chance, and take a look at my site. www.rlhcomm.com Well I guess thats it for now. "Radio Bob" Hynes
What's up Hunky? I miss reading your column in Dirt Bike. I have read your book twice. ( Great reading and inspiration when I've been healing up ! ) Take it easy .
Hey Rick Siemam , congratulations ,yuo works very well .I'm a motocross rider in Brazil .I have an american friend ,maybe yuo know this guy ,is Ross Maeda, sometimes he comes to Brazil. So long, excuse me about my Inglish, I'm learning yet
The hunk's been one of my heros for years.. I'm a vintage Dirt Bike reader.. good luck
Read the book and it bought back a lot of memories of the Golden Years. I stopped riding, for some reason that I can't figure out, in 1973. Started back in 94. Am 50 years old, ride a KDX200, trail ride and race Hare Scrambles. Kick myself every day for losing those 20 years. Best wishes to Rick.
Rick, I've got to get the book. Me and some buddy's were up at Gorman a few weeks ago and took a beginner through some pretty tough stuff and a bitchin down hill from the top of Frazer peak, after we got back to camp, a full day of riding, he said, I've got Monkey Butt! I'm riding D37 Dez with the Jackrabbits MC, come to our Hare & Hound, first race in 98 at Red Mountain. P.S. The Sierra Club Sucks.
Hey Hunky, Way cool web site. Keep up the old vintage stuff. Makes me feel like a kid again. Hope to see you at Elsinore. Mikey(aka Mike Viking. You remember?)
motocross is the best sport on earth

COOL PAGE. WHEN I GET ENOUG FUNDS I WILL BUY YOUR BOOK
If you havn't read this book you are missing out. The advertisement (if you have ever riden a motorcycle...) is very fitting.
Dear Rick, I was in St. Louis recently visiting Dad and he showed me your book...we were both in stitches! Just wanted to say "hi". I have everyone here at work interested in reading "Monkey Butt". I'm hoping Dad will be connected with e-mail soon. Hope all is well. -Lana
Hi, I,m trying to find information on racers from the 50's, especially Bill Landerfield, not sure if thats spelled right . Also information on motorcycles called Dots would be appreciated, I can 't find anybody that knows about Dots.I think Bill rode a Dot in the Catalina race in 1954 & won it.
I have been reading Rick's ramblings ever since I got into dirt bikes some 30 years + ago. I still have my second bike, a 1971 Husky 400 Cross which i still ride at Glamis and Pismo. I glad to see that Super Hunky has resurfaced and will be a part of Offroad.com Ron
It is great to get on-line and see informative articles about dirt bikes and motocross. How often is this put out? Whether it is every week or every month, you guys are all to be commended for making my day. I love to read this stuff! Thanks a bunch and keep it coming!
this internet is too confusing to find stuff. i wanted to check out an online page where people type in and b.s. i want to talk with people from racer x . i need leean to help me find things on this internet. she can come over one day and hang out with me. i have flowers for her and she can wear those really beautiful outfits that show off her chissled body. i can keep her warm in and out. where's dc? send me monkey butt! I just got an xr100 and my butt is raw. does bag balm help this syndrome? leean can rub me up and down with that and we can slide around on my waterbed without the sheets on. ooh yea!
who can live without a bike, I love offroad and enduro- driving on two wheels.
